Honeycrisp Apple: A Crisp Fall Apple Candle Scent
Most apple candles smell like a pie, heavy on cinnamon, clove, and baked sugar. Ours doesn't. Honeycrisp Apple is built around the fruit itself: tart, crisp, and a little green at the edges, the way an actual apple smells before anyone bakes it into anything.
That's the short answer to what makes this apple scented candle different. If you've ever found most fall apple candles too sweet or too spiced, this one is built for you.
Why Most Apple Candles Smell Like Pie, Not Apples
Walk down almost any candle aisle in October and the apple options tend to fall into one category: apple plus cinnamon, apple plus clove, apple plus some version of pie crust. It's a familiar formula because it's an easy one. Pairing apple with warm bakery spice is a shortcut to instant coziness.
We wanted to do something different. Rather than lean on spice to carry the scent, we built this one around the apple itself, specifically the tart, crisp character of a Honeycrisp rather than a softer, sweeter variety. No cinnamon, no clove, no pie crust. Just the fruit.
Why We Picked Honeycrisp, Specifically
Not every apple smells the same, and we didn't want a generic "apple" note. Honeycrisp has a specific character: it's tart more than sweet, with a crisp, almost watery brightness that mealier apples don't have. That's the exact quality we wanted this candle to capture, not apple pie, not apple spice, just the fruit at its freshest, the way it tastes the moment you bite into one at an orchard in early fall.
We talked about this choice in our original post on the scent, Honeycrisp Apple: Fall's First Real Bite, if you want the fuller story behind why we skipped the usual cinnamon-apple route entirely.
Where It Fits in the Collection
Honeycrisp Apple is one of three scents in our Nostalgic Fall collection, and each one was built to capture a different part of the season. Honeycrisp Apple is bright and fresh, the first sign that fall has actually arrived. Cinnamon Roll is warm and bakery-driven, sitting in the middle of the season. Fig & Patchouli is deep and moody, built for the quieter days once fall has fully settled in.
That arc was intentional. We wanted the collection to move through fall the way the season actually unfolds, not just offer three different versions of the same pumpkin-spice idea.
How You Actually Get an Apple Smell Without Apple
Here's the honest part, and it's worth explaining rather than glossing over. There's no such thing as a true "apple" essential oil. Apples don't yield one the way lavender or citrus do. So every apple candle on the market, ours included, builds that smell from other aromatic ingredients, not an actual apple extract.
Ours is built from lemon, citronella, and jasmine, three plant-based notes, not a synthetic "apple" fragrance compound. Lemon brings the sharp, green brightness, the part of an apple's smell before it ripens into something sweeter. Citronella deepens that brightness with a slightly sharper, more citronella-green edge that reads as crisp rather than sugary. Jasmine rounds the whole thing out with a soft, slightly floral warmth underneath, which keeps the scent from leaning purely sour or one-dimensional.
Together, they're built to evoke a Honeycrisp specifically, tart and crisp, rather than a generic, sweeter apple. We're telling you this because we'd rather be specific about what's actually in the jar than let "apple candle" imply something that isn't there.
What to Expect from the Throw
Honeycrisp Apple has a light to medium throw. Every aromatic ingredient here is a plant-derived oil or isolate, not a synthetic fragrance load, so it reads as a true scent rather than something manufactured to fill a room on contact.
If you want a candle that announces itself the second it's lit, this isn't built to do that. If you want something that smells like an actual Honeycrisp rather than a candle aisle's idea of one, that's exactly what this is.
Who This One Is Actually For
This candle tends to work well for people who find traditional fall candles too heavy, too sweet, or too spice-forward. If cinnamon and clove candles start to feel like the same scent repeated all season, Honeycrisp Apple is a way to still get a fall-appropriate candle without reaching for another version of pie. It also tends to suit anyone who prefers a lighter, more natural-smelling candle over a stronger, more perfume-like one.
Is This an Apple Scented Candle or a Honeycrisp Apple Candle?
Both, really. "Apple scented candle" is the broader category. "Honeycrisp apple candle" is the specific one we make, since we built this scent around that one variety rather than a generic apple note. If you're searching for either, this is the same candle.
What's Actually in It
Honeycrisp Apple is beeswax blended with non-GMO coconut oil, the coconut oil is there to help the wax burn more smoothly and evenly, not to bulk it up. It's scented with lemon, citronella, and jasmine, and the wick is cotton, lead-free and zinc-free, the same across our whole lineup.
It's available as a 5.5 oz candle for $22 with up to 30 hours of burn time, or a 15 oz candle for $42 with up to 90 hours. There's also a refill kit if you already have a jar from us you'd rather reuse than replace.
As with all our candles, the beeswax itself can vary slightly in shade depending on the season it was harvested. That's normal, not a quality issue.
Where to Burn It
Because the throw is light to medium, Honeycrisp Apple reads best somewhere you're actually spending time, a kitchen table, a reading chair, anywhere you'd notice it settle in rather than just catch a whiff walking past. It's less a statement candle and more the kind of background scent that makes a space feel a little more like fall without announcing it.
If You Want to Try It Alongside Our Other Fall Scents
Honeycrisp Apple is also one of the five scents in our Fall Beeswax Candles roundup, alongside Into the Forest, Toasty Pumpkin Brulee, Cinnamon Roll, and Fig & Patchouli. And if you'd rather try everything we make in one go, the Ultimate Bundle of 9 includes this scent alongside the rest of our year-round lineup at a lower price than buying each individually.
If you've had enough of pie-scented candles this fall, this one's built to smell like something you'd actually bite into.
